Shoulder Pain and Auto Injury

Shoulder Pain and Auto Injury

If you are dealing with shoulder pain after a car accident, don't despair. Dr. Myers sees this type of condition frequently in our Asheville office. Let's see why shoulder pain is frequently experienced after an auto collision and see how chiropractic care can help you get better.

There are at least two different ways that you can develop shoulder pain after a crash: by direct injury to the shoulder joint or by referred pain from the neck.

Direct damage can be caused by striking your shoulder on a hard surface in the car during the impact, or can occur if you have a tight grip on the steering wheel during a rear end crash. With this type of injury, you'll often be aware of the pain shortly after the wreck.

More commonly, Dr. Myers finds that shoulder or arm pain doesn't immediately appear after a crash, but begins a few days or weeks after the accident. This type of shoulder discomfort actually starts in the neck. Injured ligaments or muscles in your neck can tweak nerves in your neck, causing numbness, tingling, or pain in your shoulder, elbow, or wrist.

We've worked with many types of shoulder problems in our Asheville office. This process involves chiropractic adjustments to restore your spine's natural mobility and exercises that strengthen your neck and shoulder.

Let us help you recover from shoulder pain. Dr. Myers has helped many people with the same problem, and we can probably help you, too. The first step is to get an accurate diagnosis to determine what's causing your pain and then we will determine an appropriate treatment plan of action.
